Other Information

CLEP is considered “credit for prior learning (CPL)”.

  • Students may only receive credit for up to a maximum of 25% of the credits required for their degree or certificate at BMCC. Example: AAOT requires 90 credits so the maximum # of CPL credits is 22.
  • If transferring to another college, you will need to have your scores sent to that school.
  • There are various forms of CPL, so please be sure to check with the Registrar’s Office prior to taking your exam to determine if other forms of CPL have already been transcribed for you.

A Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Portfolio allows you to gain credit for knowledge you have gained in a variety of ways other than formal education. It is a process by which you demonstrate that what you have learned is equivalent to the learning taught in a postsecondary class.

Based on the information contained in the portfolio, college credit may be granted.

BMCC’s Business Administration Department offers a PLA option to earn credit for specific courses toward degree completion.

The process is a comprehensive combination of meetings, interviews, faculty consultation and creation of a portfolio of work or skill exam for departmental review to earn credit.

FEE: 1/2 tuition of course.
