Zumba Cultural Group Fitness Dance Program (Hermiston Campus)
  • Latin-inspired music: Classes feature a mix of salsa, merengue, hip-hop, and reggaeton music.

  • This course will cover basics, including what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is, how it works, its capabilities, guidance regarding good prompts, and how to think about AI ethically. Hands-on experience using laptop computers will give students the opportunity to experiment with different models, such as Gemini, ChatGPT, etc.

An introductory class on beekeeping. Topics include: a brief history of beekeeping, how bees function in the hive, how to properly care for honey bees, how to harvest honey from a hive, good sources for procuring honey bees to start a hive, quality sources for bee medication and equipment for hive maintenance and recipes for using your home grown honey.

In this course, participants will learn the science, skills, and methods of home canning according to the guidelines of the National Center for Home Food Preservation. We will learn the necessary tools and techniques, as well as how to identify safe canning recipes, and break down the costs of this hobby. Finally, students will leave with a list of resources to support their own canning endeavors.

Week 1: Pre-production
The aim this week is to learn how to set up shooting a film. Things like storyboarding, making shot lists, breaking down script pages, etc. We’ll also go over how to write a short film script .

Week 2: Production Basics
The aim this week is to learn how to shoot footage. From learning different shot types, how to compose an image, how one could light a scene, etc.

Week 3: Action
This is the week we put both sections together and try to shoot a short scene. We will then do an editing exercise to learn how one could edit a scene.

The course will teach the basic patterns used in weaving. It will use yarn, fabric, and found materials. Also color theory and composition. The end product will be a wall hanging of each students creation.

Past Community Education Workshops

History of Grant County (Grant County/John Day)
  • This training will consist of tours to four local museums to learn about the history of Grant County. Each day will include guided visits at two museums. Museums included are: Kam Wah Chung, Ranch and Rodeo, DeWitt, and Grant County Historical Museum. Transportation and lunch will be provided.

Real Estate Pre-License course (Boardman Campus)

This accelerated course prepares students to qualify for the Oregon Real Estate Broker’s License exam in just 10 weeks. It is a hybrid course combining once-a-week lecture with online home study to meet the 150 hours requirements of the Oregon Real Estate Agency. There is also an all-day study session on a Saturday at the end of the term where students prepare for the exam.

  1. MEWPs are equipment used to elevate personnel to perform work and are inherently dangerous. OSHA states that “Only trained and authorized persons are allowed to operate MEWPs.” The MEWP training covers hazards and safe operation of MWEPs. OSHA requires Fall Protection User training for workers to use MEWPs. These are two separate classes taught on the same date.
  2. Students need to bring their own fall protection harnesses and other gear. *Students must wear proper work clothes. No shorts, tank tops, flip-flops. 
  3. Lunch break will only be 30 minutes.

In this workshop, participants will learn the skills to pass required CDL Knowledge exams to obtain a commercial learners permit. They will also obtain a commercial drivers license in the state of Oregon. Students will gain practical skills in on road maneuvers, range maneuvers, basic standard vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance.

Note:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Must complete the Student Application Form
  3. Must have had a driving record for five (5) years
  4. Must have a valid driver’s license
  5. Must pass the Department of Transportation physical and drug screen.
  6. Must have high school diploma or equivalent, or pass ability to benefit test Free ability to benefit testing offered at the Oregon Employment Department.
