The Wolfies 2024: Honoring Outstanding Achievements in BMCC Athletics

For nearly five decades, BMCC athletics has honored its top performers and celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship with the Heart of the Pack and Men’s and Women’s Athlete of the Year awards. Since 1975, these awards have highlighted the achievements of our student-athletes, acknowledging their dedication and excellence both on and off the field. In 2019, BMCC athletics introduced the Wolfies, an end-of-year awards celebration aimed at uniting the community to recognize the accomplishments of our athletes and the invaluable support from their backers.

The nominees for the Men’s and Women’s Athlete of the Year are evaluated based on eight rigorous criteria:

  1. Demonstrates character and conduct on and off the court/field.
  2. Exhibits high motivation and integrity, treating teammates with respect.
  3. Shows good sportsmanship.
  4. Displays outstanding performance, leadership, and garners awards.
  5. Holds sophomore status, having attended BMCC for two years.
  6. Maintains a GPA of 3.0 or above and is in good academic standing.
  7. Earns a BMCC degree.
  8. Continues their education at a university.

The Heart of the Pack award, chosen by the head coach, is given to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the values of a Timberwolf. This year’s winners include:

  • Women’s Soccer: Ruby Jaimes
  • Men’s Soccer: Nicholas Ferreira
  • Volleyball: MaKayla Collins
  • Women’s Basketball: Sydney Moore
  • Men’s Basketball: Kaden Johnson
  • Softball: Nikaela Higley
  • Baseball: Logan Williams
  • Men’s Rodeo: Wyatt Skovgard
  • Women’s Rodeo: Kennedy Buckner

Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Mike Cisneros (Men’s Basketball), recognizing his exceptional dedication and service.

Fan of the Year went to Dave Gately, whose unwavering support has been invaluable to the community.

Supporters of the Year were Thomas Rudolf and Seanee Still, both of whom have significantly contributed to the success of BMCC athletics.

The Academic Team of the Year honor was claimed by the Softball team, reflecting their commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

The Team of the Year accolade was awarded to the Baseball team for their outstanding performance throughout the season.

The Newcomer of the Year was Shelbie Hall-Wright (Women’s Soccer), recognized for her immediate impact and promising future.

This year marked the first time fans had the opportunity to vote for the Game/Moment of the Year, Coaching Staff of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year, with an impressive 4,510 votes cast. The Game/Moment of the Year was Men’s Basketball’s thrilling victory over WWCC. The Coaching Staff of the Year award went to the Baseball coaching team for their exemplary leadership and success.

The Riley Freeman Award, given to the rodeo athlete of the year, was awarded to Hunter Greenup, selected by the rodeo coaches for his remarkable performance and dedication.

The prestigious McCrae Awards for the Men’s and Women’s Athletes of the Year were presented to:

  • Men’s Athlete of the Year: Otho Savage (Baseball)
  • Women’s Athlete of the Year: Gracie Hamilton (Softball/Women’s Soccer)

The Wolfies is more than an awards ceremony; it’s a celebration of the heart and soul of BMCC athletics. It’s a night to honor those who demonstrate the pinnacle of what it means to be a Timberwolf, recognizing not only athletic excellence but also academic achievement, sportsmanship, and community spirit. Here’s to another year of remarkable accomplishments and to the bright future ahead for our athletes. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees!
