Constitution Day and Citizenship Day
Each year on September 17th, we recognize Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, commemorating the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.
Constitution Day is an opportunity to learn more about the document that established the framework of our federal government and to reflect on the rights, responsibilities, and civic participation that continue to shape our country.
Ways to participate this Constitution Day:
- Read the Constitution: Take a few minutes to explore the Constitution and Bill of Rights through the National Archives.
- Learn something new: Explore the history of the Constitution, landmark court cases, amendments, and how constitutional principles continue to affect our lives today.
- Get involved: Register to vote, learn about issues affecting your community, attend a local public meeting, volunteer, or find another way to participate in your community.
- Visit a National Park: September 17 is a National Park Service fee-free entrance day for U.S. citizens and residents in 2026. Entrance fees are waived at National Park Service sites that normally charge admission; other fees may still apply.
Whether you spend a few minutes reading the Bill of Rights, learning more about an issue that matters to you, visiting a national park, or getting involved in your community, Constitution Day is an opportunity to learn more about our system of government and the role each of us can play in civic life.
