Our students get first-hand, hands-on experience with forage, livestock production, Precision Agriculture and Meat Science. They will A.I. cattle, castrate sheep, swath and bale hay, fly drones, utilize variable rate technology, and process animals in our state-of-the-art meat facility.
Depending on the degree pathway you choose, as a student of the BMCC Agriculture Department, you will have opportunities for planting, irrigation, pest management, farming practices, and livestock management.
Didn’t come from an agriculture background? Don’t sweat it. Our facilities, staff, and faculty are here to make sure you have the knowledge and experience to start a career in the agriculture industry.
Competitive livestock judging is a co-curricular activity that is an integral part of BMCC’s Livestock Production program. Students need not be an agriculture major or have any prior judging experience to participate. Communication skills, critical thinking and teamwork are essential personal development characteristics that evolve as a result of the time and effort expended. These valuable developmental traits are of great benefit regardless of future endeavors students ultimately select.
The opportunity to travel, make industry contacts and be on the leading edge of change make judging not only a valuable resource, but an enjoyable experience as well.
