The EO Forum is excited to host their first EO Forum of the year! It’s also FREE TO ATTEND!!
Meet at the BMCC Library, located in Pioneer Hall, at 5:30 October 8th to join in thoughtful conversation about Civil Discourse. Leading the forum will be Dr. Nick Nash.
In these divided political times, building consensus and broad support is crucial for our system to function effectively. Engaging in conversations across divides helps us find common ground and build a stronger democracy. But how do we have constructive conversations with people we disagree with? Civil discourse is constructive communication characterized by mutual respect, openness, and attentive listening.
Dr. Nick Nash will lead us in a conversation exploring civic engagement and the importance of civil discourse. Nick Nash is a Philosophy and Writing instructor at Blue Mountain Community College. He also owns a small consulting company called Eastern Oregon Business Source that helps local organizations with fundraising and professional development. Outside of work, Nick is a board member for the Umatilla County Special Library District and a Conversation Leader for the Oregon Humanities Conversation Project.
He received his BA from Portland State University (2011), his
MA from The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2013), and
his PhD from the University of Western Ontario (2017) all in Philosophy. Nick is grateful for the opportunity to live in, and give back to, the place where he was born and raised.
Come ready to conversate, as this is a forum for meaningful dialogue— where everyone’s voice matters and where we strive to bridge differences through thoughtful and respectful discussion.
